Fiat unveils facelifted 500L

Fiat has breathed new life into its popular 500L with a range of updates.

Now available with up to 1,500 internal customisation combinations, the 500L is ideal for those who want to make their car as personal to them as possible.

Inside, it features an updated dashboard, while a restyled multifunction steering wheel has also been fitted. Behind the wheel sit two circular instrument gauges either side of a 3.5-inch colour graphic display.

The 500L is also available in three distinct trim levels – Urban, Cross and Wagon. Urban-spec cars receive an all-new ‘Denim Blue’ colour, as well as LED running lights and 16-inch wheels.

Those looking for a more adventurously designed car will most likely opt for the Cross-spec 500L. This features larger 17-inch alloy wheels and a ground clearance raised by 25mm. It also gets a new driving mode selector, which allows drivers to choose between Normal, Traction+ and Gravity Control settings.

Finally, Wagon-specification vehicles can be optioned with seven seats, giving drivers a more flexible passenger solution. It’s also the most compact seven-seater currently on the market, which makes it ideal for inner-city drivers.

The Italian manufacturer states that 40 per cent of the car’s components are new, and additions such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are some of the more prominent updates.

In terms of engines, there are a variety of petrols – a 1.4-litre 16V and a TJet unit producing 94bhp and 118bhp respectively, as well as a 104bhp Twinair two-cylinder. In terms of diesels, there’s a 1.3-litre 94bhp unit and a more powerful 118bhp 1.6, too.

Priced from £16,195, first deliveries of the new 500L are expected to take place from September.
