It was once a popular haunt for families who fancied taking to the water in the sunshine.

Now the boating pool at Chasewater is no more, filled in with tons of topsoil.

Workmen were this week on site filling the pool in after Lichfield District Council granted permission early this year.

The decisions was made after the council decided cleaning out the bird poo was too expensive.

Then – the pool was a popular place for boating at Chasewater Country Park

Ducks and geese had been settling next to the Innovation Centre at the beauty spot, between Burntwood and Brownhills, after visitors were stopped from feeding them near the edge of the reservoir – and as a result bird poo built up in the pool.

It raised fears it was damaging to protected plant life in the connecting reservoir and the pool was subsequently drained.

Staffordshire County Council, which owns Chasewater, took over the management of the country park in 2014.
