Officers from West Mercia Police spotted a car parked up in a quiet road in Wyre Forest on Sunday evening and discovered the occupants were not from the same household.

It was later discovered that the couple had travelled from Smethwick and Castle Bromwich to visit Clent, near Stourbridge, together – before heading to Kidderminster for food.

But their Valentine's plans were dashed and they were both fined for breaching Covid regulations.

A spokesman for Wyre Forest Police said: "One couple we encountered parked in a car on a quiet road, have had a Valentine's night they will never forget.

"Fixed Penalty Notices for breaching Covid-19 restrictions were given for being from separate households and travelling from Castle Bromwich and Smethwick to visit Clent together before heading to Kidderminster for food.

"Please follow the rules and maybe, instead, try using video call this Valentine's."
