Thirty firefighters tackle blaze at wood processing factory in Wyre Forest

Dozens of firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a wood processing factory in Wyre Forest.

Thirty firefighters tackled the blaze at its height at M&M Timber, in Clows Top, near Bewdley, in the early hours of Thursday morning(10).

When crews arrived shortly after 2.30am, the single-storey processing plant was well alight.

No one was injured in the incident and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

A spokesman from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, a 40 metre by 20 metre area of the single-storey wood processing plant was well alight, but crews quickly established that no people were in the building.

"Fire crews worked through the night to bring the flames under control, using six fire engines, two water carriers, hose reel jets, and breathing apparatus.

"At its height, 30 fire crew, from four fire stations across the two counties were in attendance – also assisted by colleagues from Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service.

"In addition to the timber, risks included the presence of oxy acetylene cylinders, asbestos in the roof materials, and the structural damage of the fire.

"Fire crews remain at the scene for damping down and the Fire Investigation team is now on site to determine the cause of the fire."
