Officers rushed to the scene, located behind Wednesfield High Street, on Wednesday.

But after some 'delicate fishing' in the canal, they were relieved to discover it was only a detached plastic mannequin hand.

In a warning to residents, Wednesfield Police posted the 'graphic image' to their Twitter account.

A spokesman for the force said: "We have just been called out to reports of a bloody hand floating in the canal just behind Wednesfield High Street.

"After some delicate fishing out we were relieved to find it was a plastic mannequin hand."
