Emergency crews were called to Broad Lane North, Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, at around 1pm today.

An Audi and a Ford Ka were involved in the crash and were both badly damaged.

Fire crews had to cut the door from the Ka to release an 84-year-old woman, while there were three ‘walking wounded’ from the Audi, which ended up on the pavement.

The woman complained of neck and wrist pain and was taken to New Cross Hospital along with the three occupants of the other car - two teenage passengers and a female driver.

It is the Audi which is understood to have hit the telegraph pole. The hood of the car was left raised and there was extensive damage to the front bumper.

The Ka also suffered extensive structural damage.

Broad Lane North was closed while the area was made safe.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service, said: “The occupant of one of the cars was released using cutting equipment which was used to remove the door of the car.

“The second car was on the footpath when our crews arrived and had dislodged a telegraph pole.

“It has been left in quite a precarious position that has been left in the care of the council to attend.”

Murray MacGregor, Communications Director at West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “When paramedics arrived they found the 84-year-old woman has suffered facial injuries and was complaining of neck pain and wrist pain, but was able to climb out of the car herself once the door was removed.

“She was taken to New Cross Hospital.

“The three patients from the second car, including two teenage passengers, were complaining of back pain and also went to New Cross for treatment.”
