Louis Johnson, from Tettenhall Wood, received an email earlier this week to say they were considering a nomination to award him an honour – which includes MBEs and OBEs.

The nomination was sent in in July last year, but the family only heard Louis was being considered this week.

In eight years of fundraising, since he was five-years-old, he has raised nearly £20,000 for local charities including Compton Hospice, Midlands Air Ambulance and the Steve Bull Foundation.

Last year alone, the Smestow School pupil raised nearly £6,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

His proud mother Teresa said: "We got this email saying Louis had been nominated for an honour. I googled it and it came up with OBE and MBE. I just thought this is such a big thing for Louis.

"I showed Louis and he just couldn't believe it, and kept saying 'I'm only 12'. He said he couldn't even believe he had been considered.

"We are still in such shock. Louis said his raising money is more important. They asked for further details about what he will be doing this year."

Last year Louis was named as one of two child ambassadors for the British Citizen Youth Awards. He also was awarded the Duncan Edwards Good Citizen Awards and a Certificate of Excellence from the Mayor of Wolverhampton.

His next fundraising challenge will see him undertake a 12-hour walk from Tettenhall to Birmingham Children's Hospital, and back, in fancy dress, on April 20.
