Caravans illegally parked up on playing fields in Windsor Avenue, Penn, were issued with an order by police overnight.

West Midlands Police served the Section 61 notice on the group of about 25 caravans to leave by 9am today.

The group were ordered to ‘take with them all their property and vehicles’ under the notice which is under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

The travellers moved on to the playing fields on July 5.

Nearby residents and park users have raised concerns over waste left by the group.

Today Wolverhampton council confirmed the group had moved.

But officials took to Twitter to showcase the rubbish left behind on the fields.

Open bin-liners of rubbish were seen on the fields alongside dumped fence panels and chopped down garden waste.

It came after city councillors demanded tough powers to evict travellers within 24 hours.
