120-plant cannabis factory found after smoke seen at from house

More than 120 cannabis plants and growing equipment were found after smoke was seen coming from a Black Country house.

The discovery was made after smoke was seen coming from the house in Bunkers Hill Lane in the Portobello area, between Willenhall and Bilston, at around 1pm on Wednesday.

The plants and growing equipment were later discovered by officers in five of the rooms.

No-one was in the house at the time and no arrests have been made.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We were called by fire crews to a suspected cannabis farm as they responded to alarms and smoke at a house in Bunkers Hill Lane, Portobello, at about 1.05pm on Wednesday.

"Officers found about 120 cannabis plants and growing equipment in five of the rooms. No-one was present at the house.

"Investigations are continuing and anyone with information can get in touch with us."

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said "We were called to Bunkers Hill Lane at around 12.50pm on Wednesday. We sent crews from Fallings Park and Bilston to the scene, a total of eight firefighters.

"It involved a small fire in the ground floor living room. The electrical supply was isolated.

"The fire is believed to have started accidentally. We left the scene with the police."
