The 18th Century former office building, in Mount Pleasant, Bilston – close to the town centre – has been empty for some time.

After purchasing the vacant property at auction recently, applicant Mr Vijay Kumar now hopes to transform it into three two-bedroomed flats for residential use.

In a heritage and design statement submitted to Wolverhampton Council, Mr Kumar’s agent Thorne Architecture, said: “The redevelopment of the building will bring back into use a currently redundant building.

"The conversion will provide sustainable homes thereby ensuring the ongoing survival of the building into the future.

“Internally some walls will be partially removed whilst retaining the original cornice above. A number of internal doors will be removed and blocked up and a new door opening created.

“The setting is located within a row of 18th and 19th Century buildings of similar style. Generally all historic internal fabric will remain unaltered. The alterations and conversion will have minimal impact on the property and the character of the building and surrounding area will not be adversely affected by the conversion.”

The application added that an additional outbuilding would be converted into cycle and bin stores.

Wolverhampton Council’s planning chiefs will make a decision on the application at a later date.
