Bilston crash: Man killed in Bradley Lane collision

A pillion passenger has died after a serious crash between a motorbike and a car in Bilston.

And the rider of the motorbike ran off from the scene after the crash, which happened in Bradley Lane at around 9pm last night.

Bradley Lane was shut into the early hours with a damaged motorbike and people carrier cordoned off.

This morning the 20-year-old man has been named as Joshua in tributes left at the scene by family members.

One said: "To our bro Joshua, gone so soon, you’ll never be forgotten. Hope you find Nan and Uncle Mitch. RIP. Love from Stephen, Kieran, Jamie, DJ and Jade.

Another said: “To my son Joshua, rest in peace, you’ll be sadly missed. Can’t believe you’re gone angel, until we meet again. Love from mum and dad.”

What we know about the crash

Flowers left at the scene

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man is believed to have been riding on the motorcycle at the time of the crash.

The man was found in cardiac arrest at the scene as an off-duty nurse stopped to help and started CPR.

Ambulance crews took over care but the man died at the scene.

Floral tributes have been left at the roadside.

The wall outside a home was damaged in the crash with sand scattered on the pavement nearby.

Crash scene investigators were at the scene overnight between the Bradley Lane Metro stop and Edinburgh Road.

Neighbours' shock at fatal crash

People have been expressing their shock at the crash which saw the road closed for several hours.

One person, who did not wish to be named, said: "I went upstairs and saw all the blue lights, the police were still here until around 1.30am.

"It happened around 9pm but I didn’t come out the house as I’m on my own - but neighbours came out and went down.

"It’s a shame to hear that he died, he’ll only be young, so it’s very sad."

Another resident added: "I don’t know what happened but I saw the police cordon and the cars.

"I’m sorry to hear what happened."

Posting online, Fee Cutts, said: "Another young life taken. Thoughts, prayers with your family at this sad time."

Police appeal for witnesses

PC Chris Ridge, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses of this collision to come forward, particularly if anyone has any dash-cam footage.

“We have spoken with the driver of the car who is helping us with our enquiries. However, the bike rider ran off and I would urge him to make contact so we can understand what happened and hear his side of the story.

“A man has tragically lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at this terribly traumatic time."

West Midlands Police's traffic team issued an appeal on Twitter asking for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

The force said: "We are investigating a fatal collision that occurred around 9pm 17th April on Bradley Lane, Wolverhampton.

"Anybody who saw this incident or has any information should contact 101 and quote Log 2613 17/04/19."
