Black Country Route blocked after lorry rolls onto side in crash

A lorry driver was taken to hospital after his lorry rolled onto its side in a crash which blocked a major road for more than eight hours.

Traffic queued as police cordoned off the A463 Black Country Route outside the Citadel logistics centre.

The crash happened at around 10.30pm at the centre where the Wiggle bike warehouse is based.

A man inside the lorry tried to kick the windscreen through to get out of the cab.

But after this failed he was able to climb out up through the roof.

He was treated for a head injury and bruises.

After the wound was dressed he was taken to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital.

The route was still blocked this morning leading to delays as traffic was diverted on the busy dual carriageway taking motorists towards the M6.

Queues formed at the Moxley Junction roundabout at the A4444/ A41 Black Country New Road.

Firefighters from Willenhall fire station posted on social media: "Willenhall and Bilston fire crews have attended a serious accident on the Black Country Route this evening.

"The driver has sustained a head injury following the HGV coming to rest on its side."

Ten firefighters from the crews attended.
