Hundreds of readers entered the competition, which had five luxury hampers, filled with festive treats, ready to be won.

They were worth more than £100 each.

Entrants collected vouchers which were printed across six nights in the newspaper and had to submit at least four of them to be in with a chance of winning.

Paul Clemson, who is retried and lives with his son Michael, was one of the winners of this year’s prize.

The 66-year-old, from Fordhouses in Wolverhampton, said: “I entered about two or three weeks ago when the vouchers were printed, I always read the Express & Star.

“I’ve won a couple of odd competitions over the years but nothing substantial.

“It was a very nice surprise and it is a very nice hamper.

It contains bits of everything including popcorn, oat crumbles, shortbread, jam, marmalade, crisps, chocolate, pasta shells, sauce and pate.

“I’m sure that nothing in there will be going to waste, me and my son have already tucked in.”
