Jane Stevenson, MP for Wolverhampton North East, visited the supermarket in Pendeford to learn more about its work with the local community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

She spoke with the store’s Community Champion, Marie Lock, who has been engaging with charities across the city, as well as offering support to schools and care homes.

The supermarket operates a Doorstep Deliveries service, which at the height of the lockdown earlier this year was delivering to 70 properties in Wolverhampton every week, in addition to its online delivery service.

The Morrisons Pendeford store works closely with Wolverhampton-based charities such as P3 and the Good Shepherd Ministry.

Ms Stevenson said she was delighted to learn about the work the supermarket and Marie were doing in the community.

She said: "They have supported local charities, and reached out to nearby schools and care homes to offer support to our elderly and vulnerable residents.

"Many of our most vulnerable friends and family members do struggle to get online to order their shopping, so I am pleased to see that Morrisons is offering a way for people to contact the store directly.

"I want to thank the store’s Community Champion Marie Lock for her outstanding work in supporting our city at this incredibly difficult time."

Ma Lock said it was great to see her local MP visit to learn about what Morrisons was doing.

She said: "I am very proud of the work that we have done throughout the coronavirus pandemic, with our Doorstep Deliveries initiative which allows elderly and vulnerable people to phone the store to order their groceries.

"I have also engaged with local schools and care homes to provide food parcels, which can make a huge difference.

"We are always seeking new ways of supporting our local community, and I thank Jane for taking the time to meet us."
