Car smashes into traffic lights in Wolverhampton crash

A busy Wolverhampton road was closed after a car crashed into traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the A4123 Birmingham Road at about 9.45pm on Saturday.

A black Audi had knocked over two traffic light poles in the middle of the road near Thompson Avenue.

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service treated people from inside the car but nobody was injured.

The road was closed between PureGym and Silver Birch Road while firefighters made the scene safe and the traffic lights remained broken on Sunday morning.

Wolverhampton Fire Station tweeted saying: "White watch in attendance at a single vehicle road traffic collision with Wolverhampton Police in Wolverhampton.

"Stretch of Birmingham Road between Pure Gym and Silver Birch Road is closed and due to damaged traffic lights might be for a while."

Two fire crews from Wolverhampton were sent to the scene and left at 10.05pm.
