Parv Gaddu, from Wolverhampton, will be walking up and down the Wrekin on August 17, a challenge which is expected to last more than 14 hours in memory of his mother, Chanan Kaur.

Mr Gaddu, who has been training for the challenge by repeatedly scaling the 407m hill for many hours at a time, chose the sunrise until sunset climb to mark the 15-year anniversary of losing his mum, who was cared for by Compton Care.

He said: “I usually visit Compton every year to donate and to bring samosas for the staff and patients, but because of the current pandemic I have been unable to do that this year.

“As a result, I have decided to take on this challenge in memory of my late mother. The staff at Compton Care are amazing and doing this incredible thing and raising money for them will be an honour.

“To my knowledge, this type of challenge has never been attempted before as it involves at least 14-and-a-half hours of trekking up and down the landmark Shropshire hill, which is a mammoth task in itself.”

So far, Mr Gaddu has raised more than £1,500 for the Wolverhampton-based charity which would fund the equivalent of 125 freshly cooked meals for patients staying in its inpatient unit.

Leonie Hudson, community fundraiser added: “Walking up and down the Wrekin continuously for over 14 hours will demand huge physical and psychological resilience.

“We are very grateful to Parv for all of his efforts; the team at Compton wish him the very best of luck and I am looking forward to meeting him at the top of the Wrekin for his sunset finish.”
