People react to Towers' potential closure on social media

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to share their sadness at the outdoor facility potentially closing.

Readers of the Express & Star shared their thoughts – ranging from making long-lasting friendships to watching football.

Pat Massey said: "I went twice from The Manor School in the late 60s.

"For most children it was the first time away from parents and it wasn't easy to afford to send your child.

"A great time was had by all. Rock climbing, canoeing etc. Ah the great outdoors. What fun it was."

Dawn Lewis said: "Oh no this is a travesty. It is a fantastic place to visit and try the outdoor pursuits for many it's the first opportunity to do so.

"It certainly was for me and my peers many moons ago. Great for forging lasting friendships too. I hope that this decision can be reversed. Love Towers."

David Dolly posted: "Watched United beat Bayern Munich in that comeback, Champions League final. I sat in a Munich shirt.

"I went three times as a teenager, definitely worth keeping open, was great fun, still talk about some of the memories even now."

Matthew Lawley said: "Main memory of here was when I went with Wednesfield High and another school was there with us.

"While doing the map reading a kid started having an asthma attack and we got b******ed cause we walked along the road and went to a pub to get help."

Steve Long said: "Yes remember it very fondly. Week away from the parents and lessons. Learned more about ourselves as kids. I am certain it helped give us a different perspective on life and a love of the outdoors. Surely it’s even more important in today’s world with screens everywhere."

Philip Evans said: "They have to save this – everyone has fond memories of Towers. Many friendships have been formed here and young people have developed and shaped for the future from this experience."
