Members of the Rotary Club of Tettenhall took the Father Christmas float around the streets of the city in December, raising a record £15,073.92.

In doing so they beat their own record, set last year, of just over £11,000.

The cash will be distributed between Acorns Hospice, Compton Care, the Air Ambulance and a number of other local charities, some of which sent volunteers to help the club collect.

Roger Timbrell, of the Rotary Club of Tettenhall, said: "I would like to thank everyone who made donations during the evenings that we took our Father Christmas float around the streets of Bushbury, Claregate, Blakeley Green, Low Hill, Old Fallings, The Scotlands and Fordhouses.

"Our main aim was to bring a little Christmas magic to the homes of the children, but we were most grateful for the overwhelming response, warm reception and generosity we received."

Rotarians also collected cash at Asda, Morrisons Pendeford, Sainsburys St Marks and the Coop at Codsall.

Volkswagon Wolverhampton sponsored the event by provided a tow vehicle for the sleigh.
