Doreen Clark celebrates turning 100 with family members and staff at Waterside House

Doreen Clark, who has lived in the city all her life, celebrated the milestone surrounded by family and friends at Waterside House Care Home in Moathouse Lane, Wolverhampton.

Staff at the care home pulled out all the stops for her party and even booked singer Sarah Denny to entertain guests and sing some of Doreen's favourite hits.

Dawn Ellis, Chaplain at Waterside House, said: "She had a lovely time and really enjoyed herself. It was great to see her spend time with all of her family.

"Doreen is a well loved and respected member of our family, so much so so much so that she has even earned the honorary tile of ‘Nanna Doreen’.

"It was joyous to see her receive her congratulatory card from the Queen, with its personalised message, as well as her card from Home Secretary, Priti Patel."

Mrs Clark married her husband Harry in 1941, they had two daughters, Sheila and Barbara and Doreen now has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

When asked if she could say a little bit about herself, Doreen answered that her favourite flowers are roses, her favourite colour is blue and that she cannot go a day without her favourite hobbies – knitting and music.

Her passion for music began from a young age and even now, at Waterside House, Doreen always attends the weekly church service and sing-a-longs where you can find her clapping and singing to the tune.

When asked about her tips for living a long life Dawn said: "She is always happy and smiling and clapping, she doesn't dwell on things and let them get her down and I think that's her secret."
