Now in its 22nd year, the Carver Half Marathon is returning to Wolverhampton's West Park on September 1, and organisers are already busy checking over the course and preparing for the event.

Alongside the half marathon course, a number of other routes are on offer.

Runners can tackle the Banks's 10k, Berriman Eaton cycle and wheelchair events, the Paycare half marathon relay and the Grand Theatre children's mini marathon.

Each year the events raise money for local charities through entry fees and chosen organisations.

Compton Care, PDSA Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton East District Scouts, Wulfrun Hospital Radio and the Mayoral Charity Fund will be this year's beneficiaries.

Participants are also encouraged to raise money for their own chosen charities through sponsorship forms.

The Paycare half marathon relay is new for this year and will see teams of four take on the course, with each runner completing a section of the half marathon route.

It is designed to bring people in who find the full distance too difficult, and gives people a chance to take part in a team.

The Grand Theatre children's mini marathon is ideal for parents looking to get children out of the house.

Finishers in all five events will receive a medal and T-shirt.

Training programmes are provided for people new to running, which can be viewed at wolverhamptonmarathonevents.co.uk

The last day to enter is August 31 and more information can also be found by calling 01902 577000.
