Light House, based in Wolverhampton city centre, set up the crowdfunder – which they named Project Bright – back in March, with bosses hoping to raise £5,000 in total.

And today, the online campaign comes to an end, with a total of £2,530 collected by supporters overall – just more than the halfway mark.

During the past year, staff at the cultural venue have been desperately vying for more sponsors to come forward and help keep the Light House alive and kicking.

Chiefs made the urgent plea after a vital council subsidy worth £73,000 was pulled. A #SaveLightHouse appeal was launched in a bid to prevent the iconic city centre venue from closing down. Council staff still work closely with Light House to help them with their business model going forward – and still provide £43,000 of free rent.

Cinema operations manager Jas Kapur said that more than 100 people had pledged to the website campaign – and even though only half the total was gathered, it was still an excellent start to building the website.

He added: “We are so grateful to everyone that pledged to Project Bright.

“We always say we have the best supporters – they have really shown up for this campaign which we hope will get Light House the website it needs and deserves.

“The crowdfunder closes today on April 24 at 12 noon so if you are able, please get your pledges in quickly.

“This is essential for us and will help us bring more people in through the website.”

Project Bright was set up to help Light House get a new and improved website.

Mr Kapur said some customers had been frustrated by not being able to book online on the cinema’s current website, or find out what is going on and when.

The website would allow for a better user experience.
