The 18-year-old pedestrian's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

And West Midlands Police say a 17-year-old boy, who was the driver of the car, is helping them with their inquiries.

The Wolverhampton route at the junction of Parkfield Road and Thompson Avenue was shut for around two hours after the crash at 4.32pm yesterday.

An air ambulance and two ambulances were sent to the scene between Blakenhall and Parkfield.

The woman was taken to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital by ambulance.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.
