Mr Lawrence

Roger Lawrence has been credited with "leading a transport revolution" across the region over the last six years, having overseen major changes, particularly to the Midland Metro.

He will step down from his role as transport chief on the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) when he stands down as council leader at the May elections.

At a WMCA board meeting Councillor Lawrence was told that a tram will be named after him in honour of his efforts to improve transport services.

He announced his decision to stand down as Wolverhampton's Labour group leader in January having first led the authority in 2002.

His achievements in the transport brief include spearheading the drive for an integrated system across the region to link up with HS2, including the Metro extension through Wolverhampton city centre.
