WATCH: Man arrested after 24-hour armed police siege

This is the moment police arrested a man after a 24-hour armed stand off in a Wolverhampton street.

Armed police brought a gun siege in Wolverhampton to a conclusion on Saturday morning.

Laurel Grove in the Merry Hill area of the city after armed police arrived at around 9am on Friday.

The firearms officers were sent to a home in a street.

Police negotiators worked all day and overnight at the house talking to a man inside.

A man appeared from the property at around 9.15am and was ordered to lie down on a front garden path.

A 38-year-old man was arrested for making threats to kill and taken into police custody.

The road has now reopened. West Midlands Police thanked local residents for their patience and cooperation.

A fire engine and two ambulances were parked on standby outside The Gunmakers Arms pub on nearby Trysull Road.

And a police drone was also used and was flown above the property numerous times.

A police spokesman said officers had initially gone to the cul-de-sac off Oxbarn Avenue to make a an arrest in a pre-planned operation.

Residents on the street who were already in their homes were told to remain indoors while others were told they were unable to return.

A resident, who lives nearby and wished to stay anonymous, said: “It’s very scary to see all this happening on your doorstep.

“Most of the people living here are elderly, it’s a quiet street and we never have any problems here.”
