Carver Wolverhampton Half Marathon events 2018: Road closure details in the city

Details of road closures during this year’s Carver Wolverhampton Half Marathon events have been announced.

The Carver Wolverhampton Half Marathon events take place on Sunday

This year’s half marathon takes place this Sunday and will see thousands of runners pound the streets of Wolverhampton, with several road closures in place.

Charitable causes being supported include Give Us A Break Wolverhampton, Compton Care, Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club and the mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Phil Page’s chosen charities, Wolverhampton MS Therapy Centre, Kingswood Trust, Good Shepherd in Need and Inspire You.

Full list of road closures

Roads around West Park, where the event is taking place, will be closed between 8.30am to 2pm.

Riches Street is set to close between its junction with Tettenhall Road and Avondale Road, along with the entirety of Albert Road, will be closed over the same time period, while Park Road East and Park Road West will be closed in both directions between its junctions with Albert Road and Summerfield Road between 8.30am and 2pm.

From 8.30am to 10.30am, Park Road West, Summerfield Road, Bath Road and Connaught Road will close while Upper Vauxhall will close between its junction with Vauxhall Avenue and Park Road West.

From 9am to 10.30am, Tettenhall Road will be closed in both directions between its junction with Albert Road and Bath Road, as will Waterloo Road in a northern direction between its junction with Ring Road St. Andrews and Waterloo Road.

Between 9am to 11am, Newhampton Road West will be closed in both directions between its junction with Tettenhall Road and Hunter Street, as well as between its junction with Waterloo Road and Tettenhall Road.

Also between 9am and 11am Newhampton Road East and Newhampton Road West will operate one-way eastbound from its junction with Hunter Street to Waterloo Road.

Park Avenue, Lansdowne Road, Devon Road, Kingsland Road and Court Road will also be closed at the same time.

Between 9.15am to 11am, Blaydon Road will be closed in both directions between its junction with Oxley Moor Road and Emsworth Crescent and Oxley Moor Road will be closed in both directions between its junction with Renton Road and its junction with Blaydon Road.

Between 9.15am and 1pm, Crowther Road will close and Hordern Road will close in both directions between its junction with Aldersley Road and its junction with Court Road. Oxley Moor Road will be closed in both directions by its junction with Aldersley Road and Blaydon Road between 9.15am and 1pm while Blackburn Avenue will be closed in a western direction and will operate in a one-way eastbound-only direction from its junction with Codsall Road Island to Aldersley Road over the same time period.

Green Lane will be closed eastbound from its junction with Pendeford Avenue to Aldersley Road and will operate in a one-way westbound only junction with Aldersley Road to Pendeford Avenue between 9.15am and 1pm. Lowlands Avenue, Sandy Lane and Aldersley Avenue will also close between 9.15am and 1pm.

Between 10.15am and 12.15pm, The Droveway will be closed in both directions between its junction with Leybourne Crescent and Ryefield.

As well as the half marathon, other events on the day include a 10k and 20k cycle race, a children’s mini marathon, the Banks’s 10k and a Walk in the Park.

Organiser Mary Harding said: “Everybody knows what they are doing behind the scenes and it’s going good. We’re hoping for good weather.”
