Wolves promotion party road closures announced

Wolves fans visiting the city for the club's promotion party have been warned to plan their journeys well in advance.

Council bosses today revealed the road closures that will be in place on Bank Holiday Monday to ease the path of the' promotion parade through the city.

Wolves players and backroom staff are celebrating their return to the Premier League with an open-top bus tour, starting from Lichfield Street outside Wolverhampton Art Gallery at around noon.

Two buses will travel along Lichfield Street, Queen Square, Darlington Street, Waterloo Road, Ring Road St. Andrews/ Ring Road St. Peters/ Waterloo Road junction, Waterloo Road, Newhampton Road East, Lansdowne Road, Park Road East to West Park.

The parade will be followed by the 'Promotion Party in the Park', which will be shown live on big screens in Queen Square for supporters who were unable to secure a ticket for the West Park celebration.

All of the 30,000 tickets were snapped up within 50 minutes of being released on Tuesday.

Chiefs have urged visitors to make use of public transport and avoid driving into the city centre to minimise disruption.

Normal matchday parking restrictions will be in place and usual parking charges will apply.

Additional parking will also be available at the Civic Centre car park from 9am until 5pm via Wulfruna Street.

Wolves were last in the Premier League in the 2011/12 season

Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple said: “We are really looking forward to what will be a fantastic day of celebration for the city of Wolverhampton, and everybody who has played a part in this magnificent season.

“Nuno and the squad have a real desire to thank you for the support they have received throughout the season, so thanks goes to everyone involved who has made this event possible.

“Promotion to the Premier League has been a real team effort, and there seems no more fitting way to celebrate it than together, as one city.”

Which roads will be closed in Wolverhampton?

Rolling road closures will be in place between noon and 1pm along the following route:

  • Ring Road St. Andrews/Ring Road St. Peters/Waterloo Road junction

  • Waterloo Road closed in both directions at its junction with Ring Road St. Andrews/Ring Road St. Peters/ Waterloo Road junction and Newhampton Road East

  • Newhampton Road East closed in both directions between its junction with Waterloo Road and Dunkley Street

  • Lansdowne Road closed entire length

  • Park Avenue closed entire length

  • Bath Avenue closed entire length

The following roads will be closed from 7am until 2pm:

  • Waterloo Road closed in both directions between its junction with Jack Hayward Way and Newhampton Road East

The following roads will be closed from 7am until 3pm:

  • Lichfield Street/ Queen Square/Darlington Street closed in both directions between its junction with Princess Street and Chapel Ash Island

  • There will be no access to Red Lion Street, Paternoster Row, Mitre Fold, North Street, Corporation Street, Blossom’s Fold, Lich Gates, Cheapside, Exchange Street, Clarence Street, Clarence Road and Birch Street

  • Dudley Street will be closed between its junction with King Street and Queen Square

  • Victoria Street will be closed in both directions between its junction with Skinner Street and Queen Square

  • School Street/Waterloo Road will be closed in both directions between its junction with Skinner Street and Ring Road St. Andrews / Ring Road St. Peters / Waterloo Road junction

The following roads will be closed from 7am until 5pm:

  • Park Road East/Park Road West closed in both directions between its junction with Connaught Road and Devon Road

  • Park Crescent closed entire length
