The staff member took advantage of recent warmer weather to sun-dry the salty fish on the roof of Ming Moon, in Wolverhampton.

Pictures had been shared on social media of what appeared to be the fish on the roof.

A statement issued by the Chinese restaurant in Stafford Road explains sun-drying salty fish is a tradition in China.

The employee was drying the fish for her own personal use – not to be served at Ming Moon, chiefs added.

Ming Moon apologised for the 'mishap' which it described as 'a silly mistake'.

The statement says: "England recently had a few sunny days since our last summer time.

"One of our staff members decided to cherish this sunny day and sun-dry her own personal salty fish – as she would do in her own country mainland China.

"This however, was not at her own personal home, but rather on our restaurant's roof!

"It is a tradition in China to sun-dry salty fish but it isn’t something we do nor serve at our restaurant.

"We would like to clarify to the public that this is not one of our own dishes, but rather a silly mistake done by one of our staff members.

"It’s one of those #WrongPlaceWrongTimeWrongThingToDO mistakes that she is deeply ashamed for and apologises for any concerns or misunderstandings that it might have caused the public.

"On behalf of Ming Moon Wolverhampton restaurant we apologise for any mishaps of this incident."
