One silver car was left crumpled on the pavement facing the road next to damaged railings, while a disfigured people carrier ended up in the middle of the northbound carriageway facing the wrong direction.

Firefighters from Tettenhall posted pictures of the aftermath, with one photo showing the engine which ended up on the opposite side of the road to the car.

A fire crew from Fallings Park were also at the crash, which saw police close off Stafford Road while the scene was cleared.

A small crowd gathered as emergency services worked to clear the debris next to Oxley Food Store, with some police officers on the scene until 3am.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said anyone with information could get in touch by calling 101 and quoting log number 2440 of April 6.
