Surprise proposal at Wolverhampton Civic Centre caught on film

Planning a surprise proposal? How about Paris? Rome? Or maybe even Wolverhampton Civic Centre?

One loved-up gentleman boldly picked the latter, and surprised his girlfriend at her place of work by getting down on one knee in front of all her colleagues in customer services.

Luckily, she said yes.

It was just another day for Civic Centre customer services manager Andrea Beckford. Having worked in the department for 12 years, she was just finishing off her shift and waiting for boyfriend Stephen Morgan to pick her up, when she got a text saying he would be a little late.

Little did she know her partner of just more than a year was already inside the centre, busy explaining his romantic plans to security and colleagues who quickly offered to help.

With the whole proposal caught on film, a visibly shocked Andrea could not contain her delight when Stephen turned the corner and presented her with a solitaire diamond ring on a platinum band - in front of a room of more than 70 people.

Andrea, 38, said: “The proposal was very beautiful and completely unexpected. We had already spoke about marriage; however, I didn’t expect him to propose so soon. Stephen spoke to my dad and asked permission first which was very traditional.

“It was lovely that I got to share the moment with all my colleagues who have become my closest friends. It’s even more amazing that the moment is captured on video. We went straight home after work so I could show my mom and nan who were so happy for us.

“I can’t wait to marry the love of my life.”

Stephen, 49, added: “I wanted to make the moment extra special and be something she would remember for the rest of her life. Her colleagues are like her family, so I wanted it to be in front of them. I was slightly nervous but excited at the same time.

“Andrea is beautiful and amazing and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”

The pair share a love of music, and met at a special musical charity event where they said they had an "instant connection". Stephen, from Erdington in Birmingham, works full time as a bass guitarist and Andrea, who lives in Parkfields, Wolverhampton, often sings at church.

They are now fully immersed in wedding planning, and hope to tie the knot later this year either in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, or perhaps somewhere sunny overseas.
