Ten year old Baljit Duley came out on top in the annual contest run by Pat McFadden.

More than 200 pupils from schools in Mr McFadden's Wolverhampton South East constituency submitted card designs.

These were whittled down to Lanesfield Primary pupil Baljit's winning entry and three runners-up – Lily-Violet Jordan, Navpreet Sidhu and Kashish Katnorija.

The competition ran from September and the winning child and runners-up were honoured with certificates and House of Commons prizes.

Baljit said: "I can’t believe that I won. So many people entered, so I’m really happy."

Mr McFadden said: “Every year MPs have to decide which Christmas card they will use – it gets sent to businesses, other MPs, places of worship, charities and constituents so you want it to be creative and a good design.

"I have run this competition for a number of years now and not only do I always end up with a fantastic, quality design but it also is a real confidence boost for the children taking part, it encourages them to think more about politics and also to be creative.

"I’d like to thank all of the people that entered, the winner and runners up but also the local sponsors of the competition. – Zuri Coffee, Revolver Records and Angel Springs."

Lily-Violet Jordan added: “I love my prizes – I got loads of House o Commons stationary."

Wolverhampton deputy mayor, Councillor Phil Page, also helped present the prizes.
