Aaron Ahir, 10, will take on the challenge next month as he aims to raise money for Global's Make Some Noise.

The schoolboy, who studies at Christ Church CofE in Coseley, has so far raised £620 as part of his fundraising push which began on September 7.

Aaron's mother Angela, from Wolverhampton, said: "The charity helps change young people's lives – those who have life-changing illnesses, disabilities.

"Aaron wants to make a difference so he's planning to swim for an hour in a 25-metre pool and completed one mile, which is 64 lengths.

"He's been practising every other day and we're all really proud of him.

"He wants to take swimming as far as he can. His instructor Chris Mallinson has been an inspiration."

Aaron will take on the challenge at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre in Bilston on October 1. To support his fundraising visit heart30in30.everydayhero.com/uk/aaron-ahir
