Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon 2017: Crowds turn out as thousands enjoy event

Thousands of people took to the city's streets today for this year's Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

And they're off! Runners take the start of this year's Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon

And crowds cheered them across the finish line as they raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes along the way.

Six events made up the day including the long-standing marathon, half-marathon, 10km run, cycle route, walk through West Park and wheelchair events.

While it is the fastest athletes who take the spoils, others were applauded along the route as they battle gruelling personal challenges.

Sights from this year's Wolverhampton Marathon

The Cousins 20k cycle and wheelchair event was the first of the day from 9am.

The full and half marathon got under way at 9.15am. Ten minutes later the children's mini marathon made tracks from the start.

People took part in the Banks's 10k run from 9.40am.

And the Callprint walk in the park event led off from 10.15am.

The annual event has been a landmark event in the city’s calendar since the late 1990s.
