An empty retail unit is to become a new betting shop after council bosses approved the plans.

The shop will be based along the Dudley Road, Wolverhampton.

Plans were submitted to City of Wolverhampton Council in March, with council chiefs releasing the details in May.

The police have given security advice following the application.

They state that there must be security glass installed on the front door, the back door must also be 'security rated' and used as a fire escape.

A full intruder alarm with panic alarm will also need to be installed along with a full CCTV system.

The police also state that "Counters within the premises should protect the staff from attack."

The shop will be open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The applicant, Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Ltd, must write to the council before installing refrigeration or ventilation systems or anything that could cause noise pollution.

A statement on the council's decision notice stated: "The proposals would not detract from this local/district centre. On balance, there would be no undue impacts on amenity and safety."

The applicant was not available for comment on the plans.
