The Peugeot remained at the scene with damage to its windscreen and New Road was shut between the two roundabouts in the town centre as a result.

Police cars were preventing traffic from entering New Road from the island at the Royal George and at the Pinson Road island.

New Road has since reopened.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We were called to a collision involving a car and two pedestrians in New Road, Willenhall, just after 1.30pm today.

"A man and woman sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. "
