Firefighters tackle tyre fire in Darlaston

A large quantity of tyres were on fire in Darlaston this evening.

West Midlands Fire Service received a number of calls after the fire broke out in Heath Road at around 6pm on Monday.

A spokesman for the service said the fire involved a large quantity of tyres and two portacabins – but hadn't spread to any other nearby buildings.

Smoke could be seen billowing into the air from Wolverhampton.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "We received a number of calls to Heath Road, in Darlaston, at around 6pm.

"We initially sent one crew to the scene, who requested further assistance. The fire involves a large quantity of tyres.

"One hose reel jet was in use. We had three crews in attendance, two from Walsall fire station and one from Willenhall station.

"Two portacabins were totally destroyed in the fire, but it did not spread to any other nearby buildings."

Crews left the scene shortly after 7.10pm.
