FC Darlaston were given the nod to move to the Recreation Ground in Hall Street, Rough Hay, by Walsall Council before the decision was called in by five councillors, who preferred other bidders.

The final decision has been passed to the authority's cabinet on April 24 and members have been urged to consider "wider community benefits" by a scrutiny panel.

It leaves bosses of the amateur football club facing an anxious wait to see what their future holds.

Chief executive Paul Foster said he was "disappointed" with the challenge and dismissed suggestions the move would not benefit the community.

Two other clubs who have expressed an interest in the site – Willenhall Harriers and Lane Head FC.
