Jack Patterson, pupil at St Francis of Assisi Catholic College in Aldridge, was awarded for the work he has done in lessons since returning to school and home schooling.

Despite the difficulties faced by students throughout lockdown, Jack has ensured that his work remains of a high standard.

As a reward for his efforts, the Year 7 pupil's English teacher, Paul Mobberley, arranged for him to receive a personalised surprise from Walsall's Saddlers.

Jack was gifted a personalised shirt, with his surname on the back, a ball signed by the team's players and a programme, all of which were courtesy of Walsall Football Club.

In addition to this, later in the year when restrictions allow it, Jack has been invited to have a meeting with some of the players and lead out the teams at a match at The Banks's Stadium.

He will also act as a ball boy and mascot when matches resume.

Speaking about Jack's achievements, Mr Mobberley, said: "This gift was chosen as Jack is a big football fan and promising football player himself, both for the school and his club Holly Lane.

"Jack received his surprise award in school from head teacher Mr Salkeld and was absolutely delighted.

"He is a credit to St Francis of Assisi and himself and really does demonstrate all the values the school stands for.

"Well done Jack and keep up the amazing work."
