Crews first pumped the water from the pool while they worked to ensure the animal remained calm.

Images posted on social media showed the huge forklift was brought in close to the pool which was still surrounded by a light covering of snow.

Specialist strapping was then tied around the animal so that it could be safety winched out of the pool which measured around 32ft by 16ft (10m by 5m).

A vet sedated the horse and remained with it throughout the operation.

Crews left the scene at around 11am.
