SSK Developments Ltd has put forward proposals to build four three-bedroom homes on the vacant site in Stafford Street.

They said their aim was to improve the appearance of the old car sales base which includes demolishing a shed used as an office which had become a magnet for drug users.

Walsall Council planning officers are expected to make a decision on the proposal next month.

Agents ATC Design and Build Ltd said: “The site is vacant. Originally occupied by a car sales business, the existing office was a prefabricated shed and this has fallen into disrepair and is derelict.

“Development of this particular site is considered to provide an urgently, long-overdue improvement to the location.

“The applicant intends to invest heavily to satisfactorily achieve the mission, this being the objective to create a visually more pleasing and energy efficient residential development to replace a run-down appearance in a prime position within Walsall.

“The proposal is for the redevelopment of the site to produce quality affordable houses to be offered for rental.

They added: “A shed was erected on the site and used as an office. Over a number of years this business failed and closed.

“The derelict building fell into disrepair and became unsafe. Drug abuse was practised in the derelict building.

“The new owner wishes to demolish the building and create a residential development that would bring a community use to the site with the added incentive that it will remove the shelter for those practising drug abuse.

“It provides an excellent location and homes for those who may have to rely on public transport or need to be in walking distance from the principle shopping areas.”
