With the £1 million mark in sight, Saddlers defender Cameron Norman has sent out a rallying call for people to get behind the Save Acorns Black County Hospice Appeal by signing up for a brand-new virtual fundraiser.
Taking place from October 24, Acorns Glow Walk will see supporters shine bright as they stroll to help save the Walsall-based lifeline for local children and families who rely on its care and support.
Cameron said: “I’ve been lucky enough to visit Acorns hospice in the Black Country and see for myself the difference their vital care and support makes for the children and families who need it.
“Please glow the distance and help save this local lifeline by signing up for Acorns Glow Walk this October!”
Entry to Acorns Glow Walk is free, with participants able to choose from 2km, 5km and 10km distances. Those who raise £10 will receive a fundraising pack containing fun accessories.
Zoe Baggott, senior manager for events at Acorns, said: “We’re so close to £1 million – but we need your help to get there. We may not be able to come together in person to reach this milestone, but Acorns Glow Walk is perfect way to join the fight to save this local hospice safety.
“We want as many people as possible to wave their glow sticks and shine the spotlight on this vital service alongside hundreds of other supporters. Every penny you raise will help us get that one step closer to £1million.”
Acorns has been providing children’s hospice care and support to the most vulnerable families as well as supporting the wider emergency response of the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.
The charity’s hospice in the Black Country has been at the heart of the Acorns emergency response to the pandemic, welcoming children from intensive care to help local hospitals maximise their clinical care capability.
The Save Acorns Black Country Hospice Appeal, which aims to raise £2million, was launched by Acorns in July 2019 following pledges of additional NHS support, that should ensure the hospice - which had been under threat of closure - is adequately funded from 2023/24 onwards.
Acorns Glow Walk starts on October 24. Participants have until October 31 to complete their distance. Entrants who raise over £50 will also receive a Glow Walk medal and a certificate.
