Hollyhedge Lane was blocked off by police between Wolverhampton Road and Birchills Street after the fire started at around 3pm.

A man was taken to hospital with burns to his face and hands and the fire is not being treated as suspicious, West Midlands Police said.

The road was back open by late afternoon.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We were alerted to a vehicle catching fire near Birchills junction, Walsall, around 3pm today.

"A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with burns to his face and hands which are not believed to be life-threatening. The fire is not being treated as suspicious."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said one fire engine was sent to deal with the blaze.

She said firefighters were called at 2.45pm and the fire was out on arrival. The crew left the scene around an hour later.
