Highways England tweeted to say congestion was heavy after the crash, which happened northbound at about 3pm today.

A paramedic officer and an ambulance were sent to the scene and treated the driver of a car which had crashed into the central reservation and a lorry.

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "He has been assessed for his injuries but was discharged at the scene as he didn't wish to go to hospital."

Highways England's tweet said: "#M6 Junction 10 #Nortbound #Walsall There are several vehicles involved in a traffic collision, congestion is very heavy and queues are building.

"At present there are two lanes blocked. #TrafficOfficers are making to scene. Updates to follow."

The lanes were open again just over 30 minutes after the crash.
