Residents living near the disused Stencils Farm in Aldridge Road turned out in force at a Walsall Council planning meeting in June to voice their fears over the proposal to build 12 four and five bedroom homes.

Their main bone of contention was a change in original plans they’d been consulted on that resulted in two large houses being planned to face existing homes in Burton Farm Road.

Committee members deferred a decision and urged developer Kendrick Homes to liaise with residents to resolve the issue over the layout.

And the company has now agreed to build two bungalows instead of the larger properties, which will be less imposing on other residents.

Officers have recommended planning committee approve the development at a meeting to be held on Thursday .

A report to committee said: “The June 17 planning committee resolved to defer this planning application for the applicant to negotiate a revised layout with local residents and officers.

“The applicant has spoken to community representatives and planning officers and subsequently submitted amended plans changing plots three and four to bungalows.

“The principle of redevelopment of this site for residential and the access to the site was previously considered at the outline planning stage and approved.

“The capacity of the site has been accounted for in helping towards the delivery of sufficient housing numbers to meet the borough’s future housing need.

“The proposed layout of the application site respects the green belt boundary by excluding any built development from the green belt.

“There are no objections from significant consultees or the community, which could be considered to be contrary to the recommendation, it is considered that the application should be recommended for approval.”
