James Wright, who is a foster carer along with his wife Gemma, will attempt the challenge in August in a bid to help save the hospice in the wake of its impending closure.

The 39-year-old said: "There is a little girl at the hospice that is really close to our hearts, and when I heard the news I thought it was about time I did something.

"I am determined to do it. If I have to crawl it I will."

The hospice announced that it was near closure in June due to rising running costs and a fall in donations.

If the plans go ahead, the charity will close its Walsall doors in September.

James said: "I want to help in any way I can because this has a massive impact on people's lives."

The golfer at Penn Golf Club, who will be doing some of the marathons after finishing work in the evenings, will start the challenge by running from the hospice in Walsall to his home in Wolverhampton.

He will also be taking part in some organised events including the Ironbridge to Bridgnorth Railway Ultra, and the Run to the Castle from Aberdyfi to Barmouth in West Wales.

James, who is "warming up" with a 65-mile run in Wolverhampton's Best Foot Forward event on Saturday, will end his challenge at Acorns in Worcester on August 31.
