Budget hotel earmarked for Walsall town centre office site

Town centre offices in Walsall are to be converted into a new budget hotel after planners gave the green light to proposals.

Council planning officers have granted permission to the application by Walsall-based Central Homes Ltd for the plan for the building in Lichfield Street.

The hotel, which agents for the company say would be ideal for travellers and builders working in the area, will create six jobs.

It will have a total of 40 bedrooms – 30 of which will be double – along with seven on-site car parking spaces.

The building is situated between the Arbour Lights pub and Bairstow Eves estate agents and within walking distance of Walsall’s bus and train stations.

In their application to the council, agents BM3 Architecture Ltd said: “The proposal aims to convert an existing building in Walsall, currently used for offices, into a budget hotel.

“The proposal will include plans to extended two storeys on one side and two storeys at the back.

“The roof will be raised at the front and the back with the positioning of some dormer windows to allow more internal space.

“The internal layout has been re-modelled to accommodate 40 rooms suitable for builders and travellers.

“Food vending machines have been provided on site, however the owner is looking into reach an agreement with next door pub for breakfast.”
