The new £7.8 million Travelodge in Walsall town centre is starting to take shape

Work on the project to build the 60-bedroom hotel in the town centre is well under way.

The Wisemore Central site, next to Tesco Extra, is being transformed as part of a new development.

It will see a Travelodge Hotel, a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant and a further 15,000 sq ft of leisure and retail premises built in the town.

Now, Travelodge has launched a recruitment drive to search for 16 members of staff to work at the hotel.

The roles include hotel manager, assistant hotel manager, receptionist, housekeeping team members among others.

Craig Bonnar, Travelodge chief operating officer said: “We are very excited to be opening our first Travelodge hotel in Walsall.

"Right now our focus is to build a strong team to manage the hotel.

"Therefore we are looking for colleagues who are dedicated and passionate about delivering great service. We can teach the skills that they need and we are totally committed in developing our people.

"We operate a successful in-house management development programme, which has helped thousands of colleagues – climb the career ladder into management via an entry level position.”

The development will be complete by the end of the year, transforming the current derelict site while generating between 100 and 120 jobs overall.
