Edwin Michael Bradley’s body was discovered by police at his house in St Thomas Close, Coalpool, on July 6.

The 65-year-old’s neighbours called the police after a ‘foul odour’ could be smelt and he had not been seen for several days, Black Country Coroner’s Court heard.

The post mortem into Mr Bradley’s death revealed he had been killed as a result of a blunt force trauma to his head.

An investigation was launched and Darren Barnes, 47, of no fixed abode, has been charged with his murder.

Assistant coroner Emma Serrano suspended the inquest while the investigation continues.

She told the court: “On July 6, police were called to St Thomas Close in Walsall following concerns raised from neighbours who had hadn’t seen him and complaints of a foul odour coming from the building.

“Police found the body and an investigation has taken place. Somebody has been arrested and charged with murder and remanded in custody.

“A further hearing took place and was adjourned for a trial to take place in Wolverhampton Crown Court in January.

“In relation to the criminal charges I suspended the inquest with no adjournment date set.”
