Travellers have moved onto land in Walsall

Around 15 caravans pitched up on the fields off Rowley Place, Rushall, on Wednesday night.

Walsall Council said its officers had visited the site and were working on having them removed.

It is the latest in a series of travellers incursions in the Black Country.

A group have been in on land near Grapes Pool in Bilston since the start of last week.

Injunctions have been placed on several sites across Walsall in a bid to stop the scourge of traveller invasions.

A Walsall Council spokeswoman said: “We’re aware of an unauthorised encampment on land Rushall.

“The Council’s Community Protection team has visited the site and is following the agreed council and West Midlands Police joint protocol to secure the land as soon as possible.

“The council has a legal obligation to carry out a welfare assessment and once this is completed, it can then serve a section 77 notice on the occupants which requires them to leave the site.”
