The teenager was rushed to hospital after being found stabbed on Borneo Street, near to the junction with Lichfield Road on Saturday at 10am.

Police said he suffered 'serious injuries' but was in a stable condition last night after undergoing surgery.

It comes as four people have died from stabbings in the borough in less than a year.

Councillor Mike Bird, leader of the Conservative group in Walsall, said: "Life is becoming cheap in Walsall. I feel enough is enough. Knife crime doesn't have any boundaries anymore.

"People need to realise there are consequences to carrying knives and lives get ruined."

Councillor Mohammad Nazir, former mayor and deputy leader in Walsall, added: "We have to be tougher on people carrying weapons. We are getting quite a lot now – more than ever.

"Enough is enough. We have got to work together and get tougher."

Police continue to investigate the stabbing on Saturday but a force spokesman last night said no arrests had been made.

Shocking

Neighbours rushed to help the injured man after his mother raised the alarm. They found the victim found bleeding in the porch of the house, located on Lichfield Road by the junction to Borneo Street.

Neighbour Hassan Hussain, aged 26, said: "The mother from the address came to our house knocking on our door saying 'my little one has been stabbed'.

"My mother and father went over there and the little one (victim) was bloodied up in the porch.

"The lad is a good person. Obviously it is shocking to us, we have lived at the address for 16 years and haven't seen anything like this before."

Police and the air ambulance attended the scene.

One woman, a neighbour, who wished not to be named, said: "The incident is shocking, it is dreadful. We don't see anything like this around here."

Borneo Street was sealed off while forensic experts examine the scene. Officers conducted house to house enquiries.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Anyone who witnessed what happened and has not yet spoken to police should call us on 101. Alternatively information can be given anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The spokesman added: "The victim is still in hospital. He has had surgery and is in a stable condition. No arrests have been made at this stage."
