Firefighters battle Walsall house blaze for two hours

A house was left severely damaged after fire broke out in the roof.

Firefighters battled the blaze at the home on Condover Close, Bentley, in Walsall, for more than two hours.

They were called at 10.40am today.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, although firefighters stated it was not thought to be arson or anything suspicious.

One man was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service, said: "The incident was fire in the loft of a two-storey semi-detached house.

"It was confined to the roof which was 60 per cent fire damaged, while the area was 100 per cent smoke damaged.

"There was extensive water damage to the remainder of the property.

"Gas and electrics were isolated. Access was gained to a neighbouring property via forced entry to make sure the fire had not spread.

"One man was treated for slight smoke inhalation by ambulance crews and discharged."

Firefighters declared the flames were out by 12.46pm."
